Copycat McDonald’s Sausage, Egg, & Cheese McMuffin

Recreate the iconic McDonald’s Sausage, Egg, & Cheese McMuffin at home with this easy and delicious recipe. It’s the perfect breakfast sandwich—savory sausage, fluffy egg, melted cheese, and a toasted English muffin.

Ingredients:

  • 4 English muffins, split and toasted
  • 4 sausage patties (see homemade sausage recipe below)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for toasting)

For the homemade sausage patties:

  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the sausage patties: In a bowl, mix the ground pork with salt, pepper, sage, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes. Form into 4 patties, slightly larger than the English muffins (they will shrink when cooked).
  2. Cook the sausage patties: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook the eggs: Lightly grease round egg molds or use a mason jar lid. Place the molds in a heated skillet and crack one egg into each mold. Break the yolk if you prefer it fully cooked. Cover and cook for 3-4 minutes until the eggs are set.
  4. Toast the muffins: Butter the English muffins and toast them in the skillet until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the McMuffins: Place a sausage patty on the bottom half of each muffin, top with a slice of American cheese, and add the cooked egg. Cover with the top half of the muffin.
  6. Serve immediately or wrap in foil for a grab-and-go breakfast.

Tips for the Perfect McMuffin:

  • Use a ring mold to get the classic round egg shape.
  • Cook sausage patties until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  • For extra flavor, toast the muffins with a little butter in the skillet.
  • Make extra sausage patties and freeze them for quick breakfasts later.
